Courses:
All courses are developed
by Mott Middle/Early College H.S. teachers and are
aligned to the current Michigan Frameworks.
All courses
infuse interdisciplinary content and provide
comprehensive coverage so that students will be more
than adequately prepared for all standardized testing.
Every
Mott Middle/Early College H.S. student will graduate
with at least three college
credits, tuition covered by Mott Middle/Early College.
Guidance Based Instruction:
Every
Mott Middle/Early College H.S. staff member is a
teacher, and every teacher serves as an advisor for a
small group of students called a Focus Group.
The Mott Middle/Early College H.S. guidance based instruction
philosophy is based on Choice Theory by Dr.
William Glasser.
Choice Theory states:
"All behavior is chosen. Your behavior is your
best effort to get want you want to meet your
needs of survival, love, belonging, fun, freedom and
power.
"You cannot control what happens to you. You can
control what you choose to do about
what happens to you."
Grading:
The
Mott Middle/Early College H.S. grading system is based
on two principles:
Grades are never used as punishment
Grades reflect
cumulative learning
The
Mott Middle/Early College H.S. school year is divided
into five marking (grading)
periods that are approximately eight
weeks in length. With this practice students are able to gain
credit sooner and see progress with a more timely
feedback schedule.
Mott
Middle/Early College H.S. is grounded in the Mastery
Learning concept, which grades students with A, B, C, I (Incomplete) or No Credit -
N/C.
If a
student receives a No Credit
a student must take the class again or a similar
replacement.
Students may continue to work on any “I’s” for four
weeks following the end of a term.
After
four weeks, a “No Credit” or new grade is issued.
GPA's:
A
Fresh Start Toward a Successful Future is made real by
the practice of wiping each students ninth grade GPA clean.
Mott Middle/Early College H.S. only accepts transfer courses
for grades with a "C" or higher, other courses with a
grade of a “D” are brought in as credit only, courses
with a grade of "D-" are not accepted.
With
the MMC grading system,
Mott Middle/Early College H.S. students will not graduate with a GPA lower
than 2.0.
