FAQ’s

 

1.  What are the basic admission requirements?

Students must be at least 13 years of age to enter the 9th grade having successfully completed the 8th grade.  Older students entering will be evaluated for age and credit status to complete MM/EC's graduation requirements.

2.  What should I do first?

You must attend a Parent Information Night held on the campus of Mott Community College before any paperwork will be accepted. Call Mott Middle/Early College main office at (810) 232-8530 for meeting times.

3.   What should I do next?

You must have a referral from the students’ home school district.  This referral must come from the home district even if the student never attended any of the schools in that district.  Referral forms are available in the district offices.

4.  What is the guideline about having a criminal record? 

Mott Middle/Early College cannot accept students who are on a tether, have been charged with, or convicted of, a felony.

5.  What kind of degree can my student obtain?

Mott Middle/Early College grants a general education, college prep high school diploma.  Mott Middle/Early College students are expected to complete a high school program by overlapping a Mott Community College Associates Degree program of their choice through a 5th year of high school.

6.  What type of transportation is available to and from school?

Mott Middle/Early College provides an MTA bus pass if needed for students who maintain good attendance each month.  If a student loses their pass they will have to make their own arrangements for transportation to school.

 

Your Ride is also available for out county students and parents or guardians will need to contact MTA individually to make those transportation arrangements.

9.  What student population does Mott Middle/Early College serve?

Mott Middle/Early College is a high school specialty school serving Genesee County area students who may be behind in credits for graduation, who may not feel successful, who may not feel comfortable in their current high school setting and/or who wish to early admit and take college classes while still in high school.

 

10.  What does Mott Middle/Early College expect from their students?

            Mott Middle/Early College students should be committed to:

    • attending all classes every day;
    • functioning in a college environment (i.e. changing buildings, walking across campus in inclement weather, etc);
    • acting appropriately in a professional/public environment;
    • maintaining the student academic and affective guidelines as set forth by Mott Middle/Early College, Mott Community College and the Genesee Intermediate School District;
    • following the Mott Middle/Early College student code of conduct handbook;
    • completing all state and federal mandates as designated through NCLB and Education YES! (i.e. complete and update an Educational Develop Plan (EDP) annually, work on a portfolio for graduation and present their portfolio;
    • maintaining successful academic work in both high school and college courses;
    • preparing to accept leadership roles both on campus and in efforts to replicate the Middle/Early College concept
